The World Cup is here! And people from all over the world are starting to come together. The World Cup has a beautiful duality where it should divide people into groups and categories, but sometimes, it actually does the opposite. There are a lot of crazy and driven people out there, who will go absolutely out and beyond to support their team. Flying across the continent for a match, spending thousand of dollars on accommodation and overall travel expenses. The most beautiful thing the World Cup brings, is hope. And not to get all corny here, but in a chaotic world, seeing everyone come together is extremely hopeful.

Curaçao is one of the first examples of hope the World Cup has gifted us. We are talking about a country with the amount of citizens there is on a big city. And for the first time, their team made into one of the most important tournaments to exist. And if that wasn't wholesome enough, their story does not end there; their coach prepared them for the season for months, sadly he had to leave to take care of his ill daughter, hope was not lost. Her daughter got better and he made it back for the World Cup. They played their first match against Germany, and let me tell you I'm no football expert but I am old enough to know that Germany has won 7 World Cups, so it was definitely not an easy start. But they showed up, scored a goal and made it into everyone's heart.

The internet can be a dark place, but people have shown nothing but respect and admiration towards the Curaçao team, and we are all here for it. There is also something quite funny and wholesome about the World Cup. You start seeing people's roots, or fanatism towards certain countries. Suddenly, your favorite influencer is wearing a Spain T-shirt, maybe their grandma is Spanish. Maybe their favorite movie was filmed there. Who knows. You can now consider me part of the Curaçao community. And from what I've seen, I am not the only one. What a time to be an empath. Enjoy these niche memes, and I hope whatever country it is that you root for, gets a small win.
